DOUGIE IMRIE is adamant that the buck stops with him as Morton's wait for a league win continues after Saturday's loss to Queen's Park.

But the manager has appealed for Ton's supporters to continue to back his side after watching them slip to ninth place in the Championship standings.

The Ton chief was left bitterly disappointed after Dom Thomas's deflected strike just before the break ensured that the Cappielow side wouldn’t take any points back to Inverclyde.

Ton’s wait for a Championship win now continues into matchday six of the season, but Imrie has urged on the Cappielow faithful to stick by the players who are putting their bodies on the line for their club - and insists that any criticism should lie at his door.

He told the Tele: “We’re five games into the season. Seasons are defined over 36 games.

"Over the last two seasons, we’ve not started greatly. After eight games last season we didn’t have a lot of points.

“What’s disappointing for me is that we’ve got a support who are meant to come and support us and get behind the team.

“At the moment, I don’t think we’re seeing that.

"That’s a frustration for me, because the group of players, in the time I’ve been here, have been outstanding for this football club.

“We need the supporters to get behind them. We’re only five games into the season. I can take it on the chin, for me it's no problem, but for the rest of the group they need to support them.

“They’ve seen what can happen in the past when everyone’s united. The results generally are up there.

“And for the most of the time it’s been positive, but I didn’t enjoy that today, and in particular the second half.

"The boys are giving their all and I just want the fans to get behind them.

“If they want to come for me, then I’ve got no issue with that. The sword falls on me. I pick the team, sign the players and bring them to the club.

“Please get behind the boys. They need it, they need the supporters, and we need them behind us. That was my biggest frustration from today.”

The Ton gaffer firmly believes that the signs are there that his side know what is required from them this season.

But he says his new arrivals are still bedding in, and could take a while to get fully up to speed with the demands of the Championship.

“The signs are there that the players are taking on board what I’ve asked from them," he said.

“I thought in the first 45 minutes they were very good. We had some great opportunities and cut them open.

“I’m not making any excuses, but when you lose 35 goals out of your team, then it’s hard to replace that. That’s just a fact.

“The boys are still trying to get up to speed and it could take them a little while to get there.

“The two Robbies [Muirhead and Crawford] and George [Oakley] came in and hit the ground running for me, hitting the net quite frequently.

“We’ve not got that just now, and that’s what’s missing, because from back to front it’s very good.

"It's just the final piece of the jigsaw is missing and that’s putting the ball in the net.”
