DEFIANT Morton boss Dougie Imrie says his side should be six points better off as he looks to finally register his team's first Championship win this weekend.

The Ton boss took a look back at the opening games of the season, which began with draws against Partick Thistle, Hamilton and Livingston before throwing away a two-goal lead at home to Falkirk.

A narrow Challenge Cup win away to Cowdenbeath was followed by a disappointing 1-0 loss to Queen's Park at Lesser Hampden on Ton's return to league duty.

However Imrie believes that his side can feel a tad hard done by from their two home games so far - and says he's determined to rectify that when the Diamonds come to town on Saturday.

"If there's ever a good time to get a first win of the season, it's when you're at home," He told the Tele.

"I think the two league games we've had at home so far this season have seen us a wee bit unfortunate not to pick up six points out of six.

"Certainly in the first half against Hamilton, we should've been out of sight. But it's been a common theme when we've analysed the season back: we've had a very good opening 45 minutes, but the second 45 isn't the same.

"We've not seen the same sort of intensity, which is something we've looked at and will look to improve going forward.

"In the Hamilton game we certainly did enough to go and win the game and for large parts of the Falkirk game we did enough.

"Again, decisions went against us that changed the whole complexion of the game. We could've been in such a strong position, but through no fault of the players, we're put on the back foot.

"I thought on the day they were excellent, but there's no getting away from the fact that we haven't picked up any points.

"It's disappointing, but decisions didn't go our way and cost us two goals.

"You hope these things level out over the course of the season."

Imrie and his staff have been working around the clock to try and iron out any teething problems in his new-look squad.

And he says that to keep those intensity levels up, his side need to find an element of composure that has since evaded them when it's mattered in the early stages of the season.

"That intensity that we're looking for comes down to a lot of things," he added.

"We're too frantic to take throw-ins or free-kicks, even goal kicks. It just comes down to managing the game better.

"Myself and Andy can't be in their ear 24/7, telling them how to manage the game. They need to learn that themselves. It's about settling the game down and not forcing the issue.

"If we force things and make a mistake, they get their tails up, and we're on the back foot.

"My biggest frustration thus far has been the game at Livingston, because in the main, we've been really good and I think we should be on more points than we're on.

"But that's football - you need to earn the right to win and pick up points. Don't get me wrong, we'll take points picked up at Partick and Livingston, but we know we should be on more."

And he believes that the final piece of the jigsaw may be easier to find than first feared.

He continued: "We should've been out of sight against Hamilton, and certainly when you're two up against Falkirk, you shouldn't lose.

"We had two great opportunities against Queen's Park to go one goal up. Yes, they had chances, but they weren't as clear cut as ours.

"Second half, they hit the post twice and the bar once, but other than that it was balls across the box. We had some great opportunities as well but again it's just that final pass that's not quite there.

"If we can fix that then the goals will come."
