EVERYONE associated with Morton could breathe a massive sigh of relief come full-time as Dougie Imrie's side put in a dominating display against Airdrieonians to pick up their first league win of the season.

A well deserved three points put an end to what was a horrible week of events for the Cappielow men who put off-field dramas behind them with a buccaneering performance against Rhys McCabe's men with first goals of the season from Zak Delaney and Cammy Ballantyne sealing a memorable win against the Lanarkshire side.

Imrie will now hope that his side can continue to push as their project looks to take flight ahead of this weekend's trip to a high flying Ayr United at Somerset Park, looking to build up a head of steam. But here's three things we learned from Ton's scintillating win over Airdrieonians.

Tempo

It was important that Ton made a fast start against Rhys McCabe's side on Saturday and boy did they do that.

Not only did they do that but they'd ensure that they remained on the front foot all the way until the final whistle was blown in a swashbuckling showing of high-energy, high pressing football as a team who picked up so many plaudits from corners of the media last season, struggled to put a foothold on the ball.

Players like Owen Moffat and Arron Lyall may be diminutive in stature, but they sure don't mind putting their bodies on the line and showing both sides of the game as the former Celtic and Rangers colts spearheaded most of the positives behind Lamar Reynolds as the sole striker.

Dougie Imrie had said that it was the first 'Dougie Imrie' performance that he'd seen from his new group of players, giving 100 per cent from the first minute till the last, playing like it was your final game. Nobody personified that more than Iain Wilson who, in his first game back from a calf complaint, ran the game without getting out of second gear.

Arron Lyall is magic...

The former Rangers kid had won the approval of Dougie Imrie long before he arrived at Cappielow. So much so, the Ton gaffer tried to bring him in three times prior to his summer move.

And whilst the plaudits will go to the likes of Iain Wilson and Cammy Ballantyne for their performances further back, Lyall was the diamond in the middle of the park for Ton as they picked up their first three points.

He controlled the game to his pace, picking up second balls and keeping it moving with his technical ability and was probably a tad unfortunate not to be more involved in things in the final third. But his slightly deeper positioning next to Iain Wilson saw him really show his class.

He'll be looking to add more numbers to his game as the weeks go by and it'll be hard to imagine a world that he wouldn't with some of the things he can do with the ball.

Promise

Many a Ton fan headed into the game with the conundrum of how do we fill the hole left by Jay Emmanuel-Thomas' departure and how do we get our first win.

Ton's matchday six performance against the Diamonds looked to answer that and show just how much promise and potential there is in this side to go on and do things.

Everything looked to have clicked where it matters most and more importantly, Ton were beginning to get their break.

Nobody personified that show of promise more than Lamar Reynolds who looked to make a statement when given the nod to be the starting no.9.

While it might've taken him a while to get up to speed, he did a great job to occupy Craig Watson and Sam Graham with his pace and ability to hold up the ball.

He was horrifically unfortunate not to cap off a stunning fast break, that saw his brilliant volleyed effort equally matched by Murray Johnson in the Diamonds net.

He'll be looking to gain more confidence as the games go by now.
