DETERMINED Morton forward Lamar Reynolds says you never know when your opportunity will come in football - but he wants to take his with both hands.

The Maidstone FA Cup hero was thrown in at the deep end against Airdrieonians on Saturday after being given the nod by Ton boss Dougie Imrie to fill the void left behind by ex-teammate Jay Emmanuel-Thomas.

And he hopes his promising performance against the Diamonds can be the start of something special while Imrie assesses potential options to replace the one-time Arsenal striker.

Reynolds told the Tele: "I was really happy get my first start in the league against Airdrie, and it was even better to get the win.

"I thought I was getting better as the game went on, and I had a few chances in the second half.

"I thought the boys played really well. We worked hard as a unit and obviously the result showed.

"I'm happy to have gotten my first chance from the start. Hopefully it means we're at the start of something good.

"You never know when you're going to be called upon, but you've always got to be ready just in case. In this case I got the nod on Saturday and the boys got the job done, so I can't complain.

"The chance has obviously presented itself for me to get a run of a few games, so it's up to me to go and prove my worth."

Reynolds hopes that as his confidence continues to grow, that the goals will follow.

The forward was unlucky not to get on the end of an Owen Moffat cross, before seeing a sensational volley denied by an even better save from Murray Johnson in a dominating performance at the top end of the pitch.

He added: "Hopefully I can get my confidence going now and that'll mean that the goals get going too.

"I could've scored in the second half. I've probably hit it too sweet and the keeper has managed to pull off an incredible save.

"You never know when the chances are going to come, but you just need to do your job as best you can, because you never know when the next one will come."

The quick thinking frontman says he wants the side to build up a head of steam, and hopes they can go into this Saturday's trip to table-toppers Ayr United with their best foot forward.

"The result on Saturday was a real confidence booster," he continued. "Not just for me but also for the group as a whole.

"I think this is something that we can build on and hopefully try to build up a head of steam.

"We head to Ayr this weekend looking to try and pick up from where we left off, but anything can happen in football.

"It's a game we're looking forward to. So hopefully we can show up on the right foot and get the job done."
