FOOTBALL chiefs hope to extend a party atmosphere around the whole of Inverclyde ahead of a landmark celebration.

Greenock Morton are celebrating their 150th anniversary this weekend when Raith Rovers visit Cappielow.

It is hoped there will be a sell-out crowd to mark the occasion as former players and club icons return to commemorate a club that they hold in such high regard.

And Cappielow chiefs are looking to extend the invite around the whole of Inverclyde.

Approximately 1000 free tickets have been handed out over the course of this week, with players and Morton in the Community staff visiting all four corners of the district to hand over the complimentary briefs.

Tickets have been handed over to the likes of Ardgowan Hospice, Inverclyde Women's Aid, Parklea Branching Out, multiple Morton in the Community initiatives, community groups and primary schools.

Speaking ahead of the game, Ton gaffer Dougie Imrie said: "Saturday will be a really special day for the football club.

"This club means so much to a lot of people, myself included, and I would like to personally pay tribute to everybody who has been involved with the club over the last 150 years."
