GREENOCK Juniors' youth sides did their bits to keep their respective good runs of form going with two victories across a successful weekend.
The under-20s development team again took the bragging rights in a high-scoring local derby against local rivals, Port Glasgow, at Battery Park.
The two sides shared the spoils of a combined eight goals, but it would be Nock who came out on top with the final score reading in their favour in the shape of a 5-3 win.
This followed on from a 7-3 win against Vale of Leven the previous week.
They are now looking to build up a head of steam and it certainly seems that the boys have their shooting boots on.
Pleasingly the goals were shared around, with Bonnar, McCauley, English, Kinsella and Jay Beckley all contributing to the final tally, as James Kinsella scooped up the player of the match award.
This Friday the team face a stern test away to Largs Thistle, although having won their league cup section and having started the league campaign with two wins and a draw they can head down the coast with some confidence.
Elsewhere, the 2007’s moved up to second place in their league with a hard fought 2-1 away win at Giffnock.
The team are playing with a quiet confidence at present and will be aiming to make it seven wins from eight at the weekend, when they are home to St Cadocs Thistle.
Saturdays marksmen were Euan Gallagher and Jack Lapsley. Player of the Match went to the consistently impressive Kian Lepick.
Neither the 2008’s nor the 2009’s played last weekend, however they are back in action this Saturday.
The 2008’s are home to OLA Union in the Paisley and Johnstone District League while the 2009’s play on Sunday, October 7 away to Baillieston in the Scottish Cup. This is a major test for the squad. Baillieston are unbeaten in Division 1 of the Glasgow league and one of the most highly regarded teams in the competition.
