PORT GLASGOW Juniors boss Tam Jamieson was able to reel off the positives when looking back on the first section of his side's season of the West of Scotland GreenVersity Fourth Division.

The Undertakers sit three points off of top of the table Knightswood in third place and a modest Jamieson admits he expected to have more bumps in the road so early on in the campaign with a new-look side after welcoming new faces to Parklea over the course of the summer.

But he challenged his side to go and build on their opening nine games, where they've picked up 19 points out of a possible 27, and beat their points tally set in the first stage of the league campaign.

He told the Tele: "Looking back on the opening period of the season, all I can really think of is the positives.

"When you look back on the opening weeks of the season, we were a new team with 13-14 new faces.

"Our standards are high and we want to get out of this league, it's our main priority. We've probably had less bumps in the road than we initially thought we would've or maybe we'd have liked.

"You expect a lot of teething problems with new faces coming in with some of those maybe not playing either, but I've tried to get boys fit who've come in late to pre-season.

"Where we're sitting the now, with the points we've picked up I'm pleased. But we need to go and pick up even more in the next phase of the season.

"At home, we expect to be beating most of the teams we face at Parklea, but we can always improve and be better.

"But over the course, I'd say we're pretty happy with where we're at, especially after playing the teams in and around us who've got aspirations of gaining promotion too.

"They'll all play each other again as the weeks go on and when they do, the league will start to look a bit different."
