MORTON'S man of the moment Michael Garrity says he was thrilled to mark his comeback from injury with a goal as he helped his side record back-to-back home wins for the first time this season.

Garrity's strike capped off a brilliant performance against Raith Rovers on Saturday, with the 22-year-old netting the second of two quick-fire second half strikes as Ton moved back up to fifth in the league.

The tricky winger admitted he wasn't expecting to be thrust back into action given he'd only returned to training last week after spending three weeks on the treatment table.

But he was on hand to answer the call of duty when fellow playmaker Ali Crawford was forced off injured midway through the first half - and says it shows the importance of always needing to be ready to grab your opportunity.

"On a personal note, it's brilliant to mark my comeback from injury with a goal," he told the Tele.

"But the most important thing for me was helping the team get a big win in front of a big crowd.

"To get a 2-0 win at home, you can't ask for much more than that to build up a head of steam.

"We've been unlucky with our results in the last couple of weeks. I'm delighted that we've got it, and hopefully we can kick on now.

"It was frustrating being out injured. I rolled my ankle in training a few weeks ago, and that was my first week back in training, so I wasn't actually expecting to even participate.

"But the gaffer's trusted me to go on and have an impact and I'm delighted that I've been able to repay the faith he's shown in me.

"It does show you that you always need to be ready, even if you aren't expecting to get on, because football waits for nobody. It's up to you to grab your chance when it comes along.

"You never know when it's going to pop up either, so you do just need to go and try to make an impact."

Garrity says that it was only a matter of time before the club's forward players got off the mark on league duty, due to the quality that the players behind them possess.

But the wide man now wants his side to build on their home wins and build up a head of steam moving forward.

"We've got very good players at the club," he added. "They can see and make these passes very easily.

"So if you keep on making the runs then the goals will inevitably follow. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. So hopefully they do keep on coming now.

"We've got two very good results at home. You always want to win your home games, and I think if you can do that, then you'll be in a good place come the end of the season.

"Hopefully the two wins can see us build a bit of momentum now and we'll see what happens."
