DETERMINED Morton forward Jordan Davies says he knows just how big of an impact that going deep into the SPFL Trust Trophy can have as he pointed to the heroics of his former Welsh Premier League rivals, The New Saints.

Davies, who joined Connah's Quay Nomads shortly after their run to what was then the Irn Bru Challenge Cup Final, where they were beaten by Ross County in 2019, knows full well the impact that an appearance in the tournament's showpiece can have on a dressing room, and he wants to taste a similar success now at Morton.

And after watching and hearing about last season's defeated finalists, Davies says he can take inspiration from TNS's exploits at home and on the international stage.

The Shropshire side, who lost to Airdrieonians in last season's final, became the first team from the Welsh league system to qualify for the group stage of a major UEFA competition when they reached this season's UEFA Conference League.

He  told the Tele: “I know about this competition. I joined Connah’s Quay Nomads the year after they got to the final, and it was a big thing for TNS to play Airdrieonians in the final last year too.

“I can take a bit of inspiration from that, because I want to come on and make an impact when given the chance.

TNS obviously did well in this, won the league and qualified for Europe off the back of a great campaign.

“They played against Fiorentina last week and did Welsh football proud. After speaking to a few of the boys at TNS I'm told it was a magical experience for them, so hopefully I can have some magical ones up here too.

"Everyone wants to play all the time. You’re a footballer, and you want to play games.

“The gaffer picks the best team that he thinks can go and win the game. If I'm in that then obviously I'll be delighted.

“But the boys are doing really well just now and need to keep this momentum going."
