MORTON boss Dougie Imrie has challenged his players to start putting in a consistent level of performance as he looks to build on last week's victory against Raith Rovers and book his side's place in the SPFL Trust Trophy quarter-finals.
Ton head to New Douglas Park this evening in the hope of booking their place in the last eight of thetournament for the fourth consecutive year at the expense of Hamilton Accies.
It's a trophy that presents itself as the club's best chance of winning any silverware, and Imrie insists that the most important thing about the tie is that his side are in the hat for the next round.
But he wants to see a similar kind of performance to the ones put in against Airdrieonians and Raith Rovers on a more consistent basis as the looks to build on a start to the league that has Ton sitting on nine points after eight games.
He told the Tele: "Theoretically, they're all tough games in the cup, because it's a game where anything can happen.
"But the only tough thing for me is that we're away from home. We've already played them at the start of the season and it was a game that could've already been over, in my opinion, long before it was.
"We created a great amount of chances and their keeper was forced into making some great saves. In the second half, Hamilton started better than we did; they got a lift and then we had a couple of half chances.
"We didn't match that same intensity that we showed in the first half in that game, but the most important thing for me tonight, is that we get our names in the hat for the quarter final.
"We go into the game full of confidence, which is pleasing. But what we want to do now is keep that level of consistency in our performances, lasting for the whole game and not just in sections.
"In last Saturday's game against Raith Rovers our levels were very good, so we have to now try and find those consistency levels on a regular basis and turn that into a run of results.
"In previous years the cup has given me the chance to give boys a run out. I've done that a few times in the past but I think the boys at the moment are deserving of their jersey.
"There are one or two suspensions and knocks that give us some enforced changes to deal with. But in the main, the team will stay relatively similar to what it has been.
"I think that the boys who've played in recent weeks and played a big part in getting us some big victories have earned the chance to try and earn the team's place in the next round."
Imrie wants his side to use their previous clash against Hamilton earlier in the season as a benchmark as to what'll be required tonight.
And he says it's just about putting in a full performance after such a dominant display against Accies last time around, not trying to find another gear.
"I don't think we need to show anything more," he added. "It's just that consistency.
"We're eight games into the league campaign now and we've got through the last round in the cup to boot.
"Can we go and put in that consistent level of performance? If we can do that then I'm sure we can come away with a positive result. If not then we'll find ourselves in a bit of bother."
