MORTON boss Dougie Imrie has moved to further bolster his forward line by securing the last minute signing of ex-Inverness Caley Thistle and Aberdeen forward Austin Samuels.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers scholar penned a short-term deal, running until the end of January 2025, shortly before the teams were announced for tonight's SPFL Trust Trophy fourth round clash against Hamilton Accies, live on BBC Alba.

Former Caley star, Samuels becomes Imrie's fourteenth signing of the season, marking just how big of a major surgery his side has undergone over the course of the summer as he looks to take the club in a new direction with a new passing, possession based style of football.

The 23-year-old marksman has been training with the club over the last few weeks off the back of his departure from the Caledonian Stadium at the end of last season.

Samuels made 50 appearances in the Highland capital, netting seven times in all competitions and was also part of the Inverness squad that reached the Scottish Cup final in 2023.

Before his time in Inverness, the former Wolves kid spent time on loan at Kidderminster Harriers, Bradford City and Aberdeen before making a permanent switch to Inverness Caledonian Thistle in January 2022 and he becomes the second striker to sign on the dotted line for the club since the dramatic departure of Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, almost a month ago.

Morton boss Dougie Imrie was delighted to welcome his latest arrival to the squad shortly before tonight's cup clash as he hailed the Englishman's experience, despite his younger years.

Commenting on the signing, he said: “Austin is a promising young player that will add real quality to our attacking options.

"He’s still just 23 years old but joins with valuable experience in this league and he was also part of the Inverness C.T. side who reached the Scottish Cup final."
