DELIGHTED Morton boss Dougie Imrie hailed his SPFL Trust Trophy heroes after watching his side put tin the most convincing display of his tenure by downing Hamilton Accies.

Filip Stuparevic’s first half penalty was all that separated the sides on paper, however that wasn’t the tale of the tape as Ton put in a dominating display under the lights at New Douglas Park.

And the Ton gaffer was impressed as a new-look ‘Imrie ball’ looked to take flight against his former employers as he insisted that there was only going to be one winner on the night.

“I thought that that was as straight forward a 1-0 win as you’ll get,” he told the Tele. “Credit to Hamilton though for the first ten minutes - they had a couple of good openings that they never took.

“But I think from that from there, it was only one way traffic.

“But from there I think we’ve put in our best performance of the season, at least on the ball.

“Some of our passing moves were brilliant at times and that’s the level that we want to get too on a consistent basis.

“It was pleasing to see Filip Stuparevic score again, with a brilliant penalty but what was pleasing for me was to see Michael Garrity getting into the right areas to win the penalty.

“Credit to Hamilton though. They came out in the second half and had to change their shape. I think to our own credit that shows you just how much they couldn't handle us in that first half.

“They did though have a few chances themselves especially towards the end when Gary Woods has been forced into a brilliant save to keep Euan Henderson out.

“It would’ve been a bit of a sickener had that gone in because i don’t think there were any doubts as to who should’ve won the game.

“But it was definitely the most comfortable performance i've watched since i’ve been in charge of at Morton.”
