MORTON wide man Owen Moffat hopes that his side can visit his former stomping ground to face Dunfermline full of confidence after the manner of performance they put in against Hamilton.

The ex-Pars loanee says that even though his side didn't match the levels that saw them run away with the first half in Friday evening's SPFL Trust Trophy fourth round clash, that the manner of the win should still breed confidence through his new side.

And he hopes that the morale boosting win will now give his side the confidence to pick up points away from home on a more consistent basis ahead of a tough run of away games.

He told the Tele: "I thought it was a good performance, especially in the first half where we moved the ball around really well.

"We took our chance with the penalty. Filip slotted it away nicely. The second half wasn't really as good. The message at half time was to see if we could do more of the same.

"We didn't pass it as well as we wanted too after the break. But the most important thing is winning and getting through to the next round, which we were able to do.

"It was really good to follow on from last week and pick up another win, especially on the road.

"It was exactly what we wanted to do, because we've been doing well at home. But in away games you want to try and be winning games too, so it'll only breed confidence going into this weekend's game against Dunfermline.

"It's really good to be going into that game with back-to-back wins behind us too. We want to keep on pushing on and continue to build some momentum.

"Hopefully we're now breeding confidence through the team that we can go away from home and pick up points, especially like the way we did in the first half.

"I don't know how it looked from the sides, but in that first half it felt as if we played really well and we want to build on that."

Moffat says his side are building a solid foundation through their defensive work, which starts from the man selected to play between the sticks.

But the wide man was keen to praise the back line for allowing the attackers to go about their business with aplomb.

He added: "Defensively we were very good and that's kind of been our theme over the course of the season.

"Defensively we've been really sound and that comes from either Gary Woods or Ryan Mullen in goals, and it then spreads across the back four, who've been excellent as well.

"We want to take that into the next game all the time, so this weekend will be no different."
