OPTIMISTIC Morton boss Dougie Imrie says that having strength in depth in his forward areas is a major boost he looks to get the best out of both of his new strikers.

Ex-Caley Thistle striker Austin Samuels followed Serbian youth cap Filip Stuparevic as a late arrival into the Ton camp on Friday night, and the Cappielow chief is delighted to have them both at his disposal over the coming weeks.

And after seeing Stuparevic hit the back of the net for successive games and Samuels show up well in his half-hour cameo, Imrie says he’s looking forward to see the pair push each other and take the club’s other attacking options on to a new level

He told the Tele: “It was a great finish from Filip, a great penalty into the side netting. That’ll only boost his confidence further after scoring against Raith last week.

“We’ve brought a good player to the club and he’s scored two in his first two starts. It’s brilliant.

“He’s still trying to get up to speed after missing six or seven weeks at Motherwell. We’re grateful to have him on board because he’ll he an asset for us.

“I think it’s good that we’ve got competition in that area of the pitch, admittedly it’d have been good to see both Fil and Austin score.

“But again, Austin’s just in the door before the Hamilton game and he’s needing to get up to speed.

“He’s not had a lot of minutes in the last year, he’s been training on his own.

“They’ll though both only get stronger with time but it’s really good for me to have two guys really fighting for that number nine jersey.

“Austin can also play wide so it gives him a chance elsewhere too, but it’s good to have them both in.”
