MORTON goalkeeping player/coach Gary Woods says he's ready to answer any call that gaffer Dougie Imrie gives him - but he insists he won't get in the way of the club's younger keepers.

The 34-year-old stopper answered the Ton manager's SOS call, coming in after a month out of the side, against Hamilton Accies and he kept a clean sheet as his side progressed to the quarter finals of the competition.

But whilst he admits the desire to play every week still remains, he'll not let it get in the way of the new dual role that has seen him try to help both Ryan Mullen and Sam Murdoch take the next steps in their relatively short career.

He told the Tele: "It's my first time doing a dual role, although I'm 34 and still have the desire to play.

"I want to aid the development of Ryan Mullen and Sam Murdoch at the same time.

"That desire to play football never leaves you though. If you speak to ex-players now, they still love being out on the grass. I'm ready for whenever the manager needs me.

"I still train every day. The only thing that's different for me is that I'm taking the [training] session at the same time.

"Ryan has been really good this season. His clean sheet record has been very good in the opening weeks.

"He picked up an injury against Hamilton that saw me come in, and then at the end against Raith.

"Football's about opportunities. Yes, the desire is there to play, but I don't want to stand in the way of anyone's development."

Woods wants to see his side continue to pick up from where they left off when they travel to Dunfermline this weekend.

"We did that after beating Raith," he said. "We got ourselves through to the next round of the cup, which is really important.

"But what was really pleasing was the manner in which we played and controlled the game for large spells.

"I think the only thing that was missing was the second goal that would've killed the game off."
