A FORMER Morton star's sparkling early season form has been rewarded after he was chosen as the SPFL League One player of the month for September.

The nod for Greenock's own Reece Lyon signifies the electric start to life that the former Cappielow academy product, who left the club two seasons ago, has had to life at Queen of the South after he moved to Dumfries in the summer.

Lyon, who followed former Annan boss Peter Murphy to Palmerston in July, has played an integral role the Doonhamers' run of form that has taken them to within a point of the third-tier summit.

He helped Queens pick up two wins and a draw during the month, and also found the net with a dramatic leveller in their comeback win against Arbroath.

Despite missing the first four games of the season due to a knee operation, Lyon has since come back with a bang, starting and completing the last five games that the Doonhamers have had on league duty.

Taking to social media after picking up the award, the former Ton kid said: "Nice to win Player Of The Month award for September for League One. Long season ahead."

Lyon and Queens are now aiming to bounce back from a 5-1 humbling at the hands of his former team, Kelty Hearts, last time out when they travel to Cove Rangers on Saturday.
