GREENOCK Juniors' youth and development teams enjoyed a mixed bag of results in their latest league and cup fixtures.

The Ravenscraig side's development team narrowly lost out 2-1 to Thorn Athletic in the league cup.

Frustratingly, Greenock were the better team for most of the match, but a few missed chances and a loss of concentration at key moments cost them the tie.

Scorer for the Greenock side was Craig Darroch, with the player of the match heading the way of Kieran Feeney.

The 2007s continued their exceptional run of form of late with a stunning 7-1 win over Irvine Meadow.

The win took them to the top of their division and sets them up nicely ahead of a home clash at Notre Dame on Saturday with the team in second place, Carolside Athletic.

The marksmen for Greenock were Luke McKenzie, hat-trick hero Jay Dooley, Brandon Miller, Rhys Scott and Sean Rodgers. Player of the Match went to Aiden Blair.

Elsewhere, high scoring matches seem to be the norm for the 2008s:By recent standards, their 6-2 win over Port Glasgow was modest compared to the nine and eight goals they scored in their previous two matches.

Still, the result gives them a perfect record of four wins from four in the league, and they sit in a comfortable third place having played fewer games than the first and second placed teams.

Saturday’s scorers were Jay Beckley, currently in spectacular form, with four goals. Braiden Miller and Alex McWatt contributed a goal a piece to complete the half dozen. Not entirely surprisingly Jay Beckley was player of the match. This weekend the boys are at home to Pollok United.

The 2009’s have hit a bit of a rough patch. They lost 7-0 to an admittedly excellent Gleniffer Thistle. The boys will be working hard in training to recover some form. Player of the Match was Jay Porter.
