MORTON defender Jack Baird says he was delighted to keep the Cappielow side's good run of form going heading into a difficult run of away fixtures.

The no-nonsense defender was pleased to come away from East End Park with a point and a clean sheet following on from the Greenock men's 0-0 draw against Dunfermline Athletic.

And he admits he could've been looking back on a totally different story had his side forced the initiative when things weren't going their way as Dougie Imrie's men survived a Pars onslaught for much of the second 45-minutes.

"A point away from home is always a good point," he told the Tele, "especially when it comes with a clean sheet.

"You obviously want to win every game you play in, but sometimes that just isn't going to happen.

"We came into the game off the back of two good results, so it was really important that we didn't get beat today and ensure that the good form continues. Overall we're pretty pleased.

"I'm delighted to see us getting so many clean sheets as well. We had to work a bit harder for it against Dunfermline than we would've liked.

"We had some decent chances, as did Dunfermline, and both keepers had to make some decent saves.

"In the last three games, that's probably the most we've been worked, and it's pleasing to get one after a game like that. Three points would've been better, but you can't have it all every week.

"Coming into the game you obviously want to win. But there does come a point where you realise that it might not come off, and you don't want to lose the game.

"You don't want to try and force something that isn't happening, because that causes you to make mistakes which'll ultimately be punished.

"I could be doing this interview right now saying if we'd have just hung in and got a point, we'd have been delighted but we've been beaten 1-0 and it's a sickener. Thankfully I'm not, and we've managed to keep this run going.

"With the run of games we've got coming up, we've got one of the next four at home. It's a tough run but we want to take whatever we can from it.

"We're not disheartened from the game and we'll continue to look forward."

Baird says he's delighted to have come back into the side and contributed to three consecutive clean sheets after a spell out through injury.

And he wants to continue to build as much momentum as possible as he looks to build on a positive start to the season with the first quarter now having drawn to a close.

He added: "From a personal point of view, I'm really happy to have come back into the side and contributed to three clean sheets. But it's not about me.

"We've won two games into the bargain, but I've enjoyed each of the games.

"The Raith game was good, as was the Hamilton game last week. We got through to the next round of the cup and then we've come into today and come away with a point.

"It builds momentum. Everyone likes a bit of momentum."
