MORTON youngster Alexander King says he had big shoes to fill as he looked to cover for the ever present Cammy Ballantyne at right-back against Dunfermline.

Ballantyne missed his first game of the season in the 0-0 draw after suffering with a calf complaint for much of the week ahead of the trip to Fife.

And King says he was under no illusions as to how big a void the former Airdrie man left in the Ton defence, admitting that he has been a standout for much of the campaign.

King told the Tele: "It's been good to get two starts. I enjoy playing so I'm happy to help the team wherever and whenever is necessary.

"Injuries and suspensions have meant that I've been presented with the opportunity in the last few games.

"I think I've done all right in the first game at Hamilton and might have not been as comfortable against Dunfermline.

"But I'm happy to have gotten a clean sheet in both games and help the team out in anyway possible.

"I'll play wherever I'm put on even if I've got big shoes to fill with who I'm filling in for.

"Cammy has been excellent this season. I'll probably not going to be able to replicate his performances or his consistency, but I've given it my best shot on what was a difficult afternoon.

"I did find it uncomfortable at times, playing on the right, I just held my position and tried not to get too caught out and thankfully we managed to come away with a point."
