MORTON assistant manager Andy Millen has been suspended by bosses at the Cappielow club, the Tele understands.

The experienced coach has been missing from the touchline for the Greenock side's last two fixtures while an internal investigation is carried out by the club.

The Tele understands that the suspension relates to a complaint raised by fellow Championship side Raith Rovers following a number of alleged incidents that are said to have occurred at the match between the two sides on Saturday, October 5, which doubled up as Morton's 150th anniversary game.

The 59-year-old has had an association with the Cappielow club for more than 20 years, both on and off the field.

Millen first walked through the door as a player back in 1999.

He made more than 50 appearances for the club over two years, first under Billy Stark and then Ian McCall.

He returned to Greenock nearly 15 years later when he was appointed as manager of the club's development squad in May 2015, a post he held for two years and which saw several of the young players under his tutelage break through to the first team.

Scott Tiffoney, Lewis Strapp and Jai Quitongo learned their trades under Millen before being integrated into then-manager Jim Duffy's first team squad.

Millen's tenure as youth boss ended in 2017 when he left to manage Kilmarnock's development squad, before stepping up to assist Alex Dyer.

Millen returned to Cappielow in March 2021 as assistant to ex-St Mirren boss Gus MacPherson, when the duo were appointed to succeed David Hopkin after Anton McIlhone's short spell in temporary charge.

Millen stayed at the club after current boss Dougie Imrie arrived at the club in December 2021, and the duo have since struck up an impressive partnership.

The former right-back, whose playing career also included spells at St Johnstone, Alloa, Hamilton Accies, Kilmarnock, Hibernian, Ayr United and St Mirren, holds the record for the oldest outfield player to have appeared in Scotland's top flight, having played for the Paisley side against Hearts in March 2008 at the age of 42 years and 279 days.

Millen signed an extension to his contract at Cappielow in October 2022, with his current deal running until the end of this season, when it is due to change to a one-year rolling contract.

When approached by the Tele this morning, Millen declined to comment due to the ongoing investigation into the alleged incidents.

Morton and Raith Rovers both declined to comment.
