MORTON defender Jack Baird says his side have given themselves a brilliant foundation to build from after keeping five clean sheets in the first quarter of the season.

The Ton defender is looking to build on a positive start to the season that's seen Dougie Imrie's men pick up ten points from nine games.

He says that his side are giving themselves the best possible chance of doing so with their defensive record thus far.

And it's a pleasing stat to see for the centre back, who opened up on the efforts that have gone in to keep such a solid foundation at the back so far this season.

"The most important thing for me is winning the game," he said. "Then personally it turns into keeping a clean sheet.

"If you can do that then you're not going to lose the game. It's good to have a few already this season with different partnerships.

"We've had people playing out of position in the back four at times as well, it's a good foundation for us to build from."

Ton head to Hamilton today, for the second time in a fortnight, and Baird hopes that his side can put in a level of performance that relates to the one that saw them progress into the last eight of the SPFL Trust Trophy and come away from Dunfermline with a point

"I think especially in the first half, against Hamilton, we moved the ball really well." He added.

"We created a few good chances including the one where we won the penalty.

"I wouldn't say that we hung in at any point in the second half - but we had to work because there will never be an entire 90 minutes where you dominate an entire game.

"The Dunfermline game was more even - we both had spells where we were good and both keepers had to make saves.

"So we need to find that level of performance where we continue to feel quite positive, like we did last weekend."
