IT was a successful week as the Greenock Juniors youth sides set up a series of wins to complement the first team's efforts against Threave Rovers.
Dundonald Bluebell, one of the top teams in the East of Scotland, visited the Battery Park to play the club's development team in the first round of the South Challenge Cup.
In wet and blustery conditions Greenock secured their passage to the next round with a 1-0 win, courtesy of a Ciaran Bonnar goal.
The victory was a little more comfortable than the score suggests, and player of the match was the very much in form Chris Lepick.
The boys face Renfrew tonight (Friday) at the Battery Park in Conference D of The West of Scotland League.
The Under 17s continued their outstanding form with a 4-1 win over second placed Carolside SC.
The boys were a delight to watch on Saturday morning as Harvey Woods earned player of the match honours courtesy of a hat-trcik. Liam Connolly was the other scorer.
The squad now boast nine wins out of 10 in the league and have opened up a gap of five points over Saturday’s opponents.
In a break from the league duties the boys are away to Kilwinning Football Academy in the league cup this weekend
The Under 16s are in equally great form and continued their goal-laiden approach to matches with a 6-3 win over Pollok United Black. Scorers were Jay Beckley and Liam Laughlan, who both netted braces to compliment strikes from Ewan Docherty, who scooped up the player of the match prize, and Ben MacSween.
In five league games the squad have a 100 per cent record, having scored no fewer than 34 goals so far.
They are second in their division, though only by playing two matches less than league leaders Houston United. The team travel to Cumbernauld Blues on Saturday. Hopefully the goals continue to flow.
The Under 18s are continuing to train hard and re-group after a couple of disappointing results. They have no game scheduled this weekend. They are next in action on November 9, away to Knightswood.
