PORT GLASGOW boss Tam Jamieson hopes his side have turned a corner after picking up a vital clean sheet whilst getting back to winning ways.
The Undertakers were back to their dominant best in their 5-0 win at Carluke Rovers last time out, ending a run of three games without a win.
And Jamieson hopes that just their third clean sheet of the season can encourage his team to kick on to a new level.
The manager now has his eye on a place in the third round of the West of Scotland Cup - and says the desire shown against Carluke should stand the Port in good stead when Second Division Cambuslang Rangers come to Parklea this afternoon.
"It was great to get the clean sheet," he said. "We worked really hard and the boys will have been delighted with their work.
“I was the happiest guy on the planet all weekend, because it'd been a tough run of results beforehand.
“We were excellent in the first half; we blew Carluke out of the water, and we managed them quite well after half time.
“The boys were throwing themselves in front of things right up until the last kick of the ball. It showed us what they can do and what they’re capable of if they get things right.
“I'm hoping that the boys have taken something from that feeling and want to go and build on that."
The Somervell Park side are two divisions higher than the Port, though they're struggling to adjust to life in the Second Division after two successive relegations.
Jamieson says he accepts the game could be seen as a 'free hit' for the Undertakers - but insists he wants to avoid a repeat of their last cup tie, a 6-4 loss at home to Kilsyth Athletic in the South Challenge Cup.
“We don’t want to go and do a Kilsyth," he added. “If we need to fight and scratch for 90 minutes then we’ll do it.
“The biggest thing for me going into the gameis the performance and that we don’t fall short on everything else. We’ll see where we’re at at the end of the game.
“Cambuslang are in the same league as Whitletts and Maryhill, who we've played in the cup already this season.
"They’re not in the greatest of form, though, so they'll be looking to try and put a stop to that, and we’ll need to be at them from the off.
“We’ll need to play to our strengths. And we know the standard they’re playing at - so they’ll fancy themselves, as will we."
