MORTON defender Morgan Boyes says that his side need no bigger motivation than to right the wrongs of last weekend's horror defeat to Falkirk as they prepare for tomorrow's Championship clash with Ayr United.

Ton welcome Scott Brown's side to Cappielow off the back of a poor run of form that's seen the Greenock men pick up just one point out of the last 12, shipping 10 goals in the process as an injury crisis grips the squad.

The manner of Morton's controversial loss at Somerset Park at the end of September is still fresh in the memories of many Ton supporters, with Jay Henderson's double-touch penalty seeing the Honest Men take all three points.

But Boyes is adamant that his side needs to look no further than last weekend to push them on to a result against Ayr.

"Friday's massive - for everyone involved at the club," he told the Tele.

"It's a chance to put things right for everyone taking part, and ultimately it's a chance to get back to winning ways at home.

"We want to move on from last week as quickly as possible.

"In training this week, we've been really keen to brush off any sort of lingering feelings about last weekend, because there's no point in feeling sorry for yourself.

"We can only focus on the next game and not get too caught up with things.

"That's the beauty of football though. The next game is never too far away. And for us it's a few days away.

"We know what happened in the last game against Ayr, but I don't think we need to look any further back than last weekend for any motivation.

"That should be more than enough to rile us and get us going again.

"You can understand the fans' frustrations from the weekend. We all saw what happened. But we need everyone pulling in the right direction.

"Friday night under the lights here can be really special, so hopefully we can see as many people here as possible and we can make amends whilst getting back to winning ways."

The powerful defender was pleased to get back into the thick of things last week for the first time in six weeks as he stepped up his return from a concussion, albeit in far from ideal circumstances.

But he hopes that his return, along with the possible addition of one or two other teammates, can be a huge boost for Dougie Imrie in the boss's efforts to navigate his fragile side out of a difficult situation.

He added: "It wasn't brilliant to come on in that situation, with the score line sitting how it was, but from a personal perspective it was good to get those minutes.

"To be given the chance to get back up to match sharpness as quickly as possible is always good.

"It's never nice to see more boys going into the physio room than leaving. But with bodies coming back, like myself included, you're hoping that that can only help the gaffer and the team.

"Hopefully it gives him something to choose from, and gives him as much support on the pitch as he can get."
