MORTON boss Dougie Imrie was left disappointed as a lack of ruthlessness in both boxes resulted in his side being dumped out of the SPFL Trust Trophy quarter-finals for the third year running.

The Ton chief's last eight hoodoo continued as his former employers emerged 2-1 victors at the Home of the Set Fare Arena on Tuesday night - but he was left to once again lament his side's decision making in both boxes.

Ton battled hard against LivingstonTon battled hard against Livingston (Image: Gary Bradley) And he says that his side are failing to capitalise on the chances that they're creating under the new direction that he's looking to take the Greenock side.

He told the Tele: "The biggest thing in football is decision making. Davie [Martindale, Livingston's manager] has got a wonderful squad at his disposal, with the strength in depth that he has.

"If he's making changes it doesn't really disrupt the flow of the game, and I think you see that with Stevie May's finish. He picks it up and it's straight towards goal and he hits it low and hard into the bottom corner.

"That's the disappointing thing for me. We have changed our playing style and whilst at times we played some really nice stuff, the game is won in both boxes.

"That was the case again against Livi. We're creating chances but we're just not capitalising on them at the right time.

"We had a great chance for Filip Stuparevic, at the end of the first half. He produces a brilliant piece of skill to flick it over the centre half and get into the box. But it's on his right foot and it's a wonderful save from the goalkeeper.

"If we score there, then we probably head into the break deservedly on level terms, because I didn't think that there was much in the game.

"They're a decent team, but I thought we were good at times as well - we started the second half well and were getting after them with a tempo.

"We had a great chance through Alexander King, who forces another wonderful save from the goalkeeper, but that was really the difference.

"Livingston will probably feel as if they could've had more - but by that time we were tired and had made five subs.

"Again it's a defeat, when you don't want to lose any game and we're bitterly disappointed."

Austin Samuels produced a devastating finishAustin Samuels produced a devastating finish (Image: Gary Bradley) Imrie, though, was delighted for sub striker Austin Samuels, who netted his first goal in Morton colours late on.

He hailed the former Wolves kid who he says can be equally as lethal with both feet in the box.

He added: "It's an unbelievable finish from Austin, and a big moment for him.

"It's a good ball in from Jordan on his weaker foot and a great finish. Strikers breed off of goals, and it was a great finish on his weaker foot.

"I don't actually know what his stronger foot is. Sometimes he can finish unbelievably with both. He claims he's right footed, so it shows you the quality he possesses.

"On another day you maybe get to 2-2 and take the game to penalties."
