GREENOCK JUNIORS are hoping it's a case of fourth time lucky as they look to finally go head-to-head with Newmains United in the South Region Challenge Cup.

The management teams, squads and even the referee will be hoping it is fourth time lucky for this South Region Cup Tie after seeing the fixture called off three times in the last three weeks.

Last Saturday the game was called off half an hour prior to kick off due to the state of Victoria Park.

Given that it was the second time Newmains had the match postponed the tie reverted to Greenock and was scheduled for Ravenscraig on Tuesday night.

But frost put paid to that fixture and now it is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, again at Ravenscraig with a scheduled 2.00pm kick off.

The forecast is not promising, so it is by no means certain that the weather will not intervene again. Supporters can but hope.

If there is another cancellation then it will fall to the South Region Challenge Cup committee to decide the next date and venue.

One plus point for Greenock is that several players who were unavailable for selection last week are back in the mix. Jamie Black, Cammy Barclay, Tai Beckley and Jack Graham are all challenging for a place in the match day squad.

James Marks is cup tied whilst only Darren Boyle and Cammy McPhee remain on the injury list. Greenock have been training indoors this week to keep the squad sharp should the game go ahead.

On paper this looks like a tie the Ravenscraig men should win, however there will be no room for complacency.

The carrot that has been kept dangling in front of Greenock is a trip east to play Fife side Hill of Beath Hawthorn - a club with a storied past.

That is sure to be a prize that the management team and squad are highly motivated to secure.

Their Lanarkshire opponents currently occupy eighth place in GreenVersity West Of Scotland Football League Four and have not enjoyed the best of form recently, with only one win in the last five matches.

Given the uncertainty surrounding the weather. supporters should check the club’s X (formerly known as Twitter) feed for updates about whether the game is going ahead.

Greenock are sponsored by Saveheat, Keystore Cowal View, Safer Group, The Lighthouse Bar, McGills, ARC and Blairs.
