MORTON defender Zak Delaney hopes that things are beginning to look up as the Cappielow men aim to build on their encouraging recent showings when they host Partick Thistle today.
The Greenock men - Storm Bert permitting - have their first 3pm Saturday kick-off on home turf since early October when the Jags come to town, and Delaney believes it couldn't have come at a better time after last week's enthralling win over Raith.
The Irish stopper says he believes Ton's win in Kirkcaldy, coupled with the previous week's battling draw at home to Ayr, show that the tide is starting to turn.
And the 22-year-old says the return of some key personnel for today's clash couldn't happen at a better time as Morton look to start firing on all cylinders again.
He told the Tele: "We're back at home for the first time on a Saturday in what feels like ages.
"It's brilliant to come into the game off the back of a win. It could really act as a turning point for us.
"It's been a hectic schedule over the last few weeks, with three games every week.
"Most of them have been away from home, and the injuries just seemed to keep on piling up. It all adds up over time.
"When you're going through a run like that I'd imagine it takes a lot out of all of you, especially the gaffer.
"We do have a good squad, and a big squad, but when you're getting that many injuries you're sitting there wondering when your luck will change.
"But we've managed to go and get a brilliant win last week, and we've got bodies coming back at a good time now so hopefully we can go and build on that.
"A few of the boys have said that for the last two or three seasons that they've been here, when they've had a bit of a poor spell they've managed to turn it around and go on a really good run.
"It's always in the back of your mind, and you want to see if you can go on a run of your own, so that's the challenge for us now."
Delaney says he and his team-mates will take plenty from the sides' last meeting, when the Greenock men did themselves no harm by holding Thistle to a goalless draw at Firhill on the opening day of the campaign.
And he hopes that both the playing squad and the Cappielow support can build on that to pull off another good result against a Partick team who have been
And he says that his side and the Cappielow support can use that feel good factor following on from last week's win to pull off another result against a rampant Partick side, who go into the tie off the back of a 5-1 thumping of Hamilton Accies last weekend and who haven't lost in the Championship since the end of September.
"I know it was the first game of the season," he added, "but I thought we played really well against Partick at Firhill.
"We played them off the park at times and we had a good few chances to go one or two up at points.
"But in the end we held on for a draw and it was quite a good point to kick off with.
"We back ourselves against anyone here, though, because when we're here and we're on it, we're really good at home.
"We've got a good, positive feeling behind us now so we need to make the most of it.
"Hopefully the fans can see that the good performances have been there and we can have a really good game in front of our home support."
