MORTON defender Zak Delaney couldn't hide his delight at seeing former Inverness teammate Nathan Shaw make his competitive Cappielow debut for a fortnight ago - putting an eight month injury hell behind him.

The Irish defender and Shaw go a long way back - their paths first met when both signed for Inverness in 2022 - and Delaney knows first hand just what the 25-year-old has had to battle with to even get back on the pitch.

Shaw had previously revealed that he's had to deal with boardroom battles and his own injury issues whilst out with a torn hamstring at the tail end of last season - but Delaney revealed just what kind of character that the former Blackpool man has shown to even get back playing and even ahead of schedule

"Personally, I'm delighted to see Nathan back on the pitch and playing games," Delaney said.

"He's come back quite early as well, which a lot of people don't know. He's still not meant to be back yet.

"Initially I think he was told it could've been the end of December or January time that he was supposed to be back. So he's worked so so hard to get back to this point.

"He's done a lot to get to this moment and with all the set backs that he's suffered in that time - fair play to him because it can't have been easy.

"It's good to see him involved back training and coming on in games. Naturally he's still not himself, but it'll take him a few weeks to get back up to speed and back to being the Nathan I know and that everyone knows from playing against him.

"You can see that he's still got it though, from the appearances that he's had so once he's fully fit he'll be flying.

"To have dealt with all those set backs and then with all the other stuff that went on up at Inverness is truly brilliant. He's a good lad - he's great to be around, so everyone's buzzing for him."
