MORTON defender Cammy Ballantyne says that the Greenock men can go to Ayr United and prove a point in their Scottish Cup Third Round clash.
The returning full back says his side can make the trip to face the high-flying Somerset Park outfit with the belief they can earn their place in the Scottish Cup fourth round after their marvellous win up at Stark's Park almost a fortnight ago.
And despite the tie being viewed as one of the toughest that Ton could've got out of the hat in last month's draw, Ballantyne says Morton are more than capable of competing with the Honest Men as they've shown in their last two clashes with Scott Brown's side.
He told the Tele: "We can go and prove a point this weekend. But as much as Ayr are a good side and are up the top end of the table for a reason, you're not going away to a Celtic or Rangers.
"They're in our league so we go there confident in ourselves that we can go and compete with them, like we do when going up against any team in our division.
"We'll go to Ayr with confidence. Our last result was away from home against another good team in Raith Rovers at a difficult place to go.
"There's not really been anything in the two games between the teams so far this season - down there Ayr got a penalty which they took, that's all that was between us on the day and then in the game a few weeks ago a draw was a fair result.
"We can compete with anyone when we're at it so it's just down to us to put in a good performance.
"We'll have plenty of confidence to go and try to get into the next round."
