MORTON winger Nathan Shaw says he was delighted to reach another milestone in his return from his hamstring injury after starting his first game in over eight months.

Shaw featured for an hour on the right flank in the 2-0 defeat at Somerset Park and he says that being able to start a game, a month before he was initially due back into first team training, is a great achievement.

He told the Tele: "Saturday was a really big moment for me. I was delighted to get my first start because it's been a long time coming.

"My last start was in March against Dundee United and I had to go off after half an hour. I've had to work really hard since then but I'm delighted.

"I am back ahead of schedule, so to have started around a month before I was initially due to come back is a big thing for me. But the task for me now is to keep myself fit.

"I don't want to do too much too soon and end up back in the physio room because I've spent more than enough time in there. I want to keep on getting out on the pitch and helping the team."

"I've just got to keep on looking after myself and keep on being on top of everything now.

"It was good to get an hour - it's hard coming on as a sub to be fair. When you start you can build your way into the game quicker too.

"Physically, I felt fine. I'm just looking to build on it heading into Saturday's game against Livingston now."

Despite there being an overriding feeling of disappointment after the game, Shaw admits he enjoyed getting stuck back into the thick of the action against the Honest Men.

And he says his side have been given no better motivation to register back-to-back wins in the league than by tasting defeat at Somerset Park last time around.

He added: "I enjoyed being back out there which at the end of the day is what football all about.

"Although from a team perspective it was disappointing to go out of the cup in the way that we did.

"But we'll look to change that feeling by getting back to winning ways in the league.

"There's no bigger motivation - we need to try and build on the win up at Raith and hopefully we can make it back to back wins in the league this weekend."
